Future
Jenny is about to start rehearsals for a new, dystopian short play, “The Axiom”, directed by Perryn Pommoto at the Chain Theatre in February. And she looks forward to focusing more on film and TV work as she prepares for the next round of EPAs for the summer seasons.
Past
Scottish-born, Manchester-raised, and a graduate of the infamous spy-recruiting BA in International History & Politics, at the University of Leeds, Jenny eventually defected to London for work as a Journalist at the BBC. Prior to that she completed her Masters on the UK’s first Online Journalism course at the University of Central Lancashire, where she produced a website for the North West Green Party and edited the 2001 Guardian Student Media Award-winning website (“Prest”). But throughout it all she never lost her love of entertaining, and although presenting a series of short films for BBC Parliament scratched the itch, it was not wholly satisfying. She bade farewell to her native land with a one-night-only performance of Alan Bennett’s “Her Big Chance”, which was quite a party.

Jenny followed her dreams to New York City in 2006 to take her place at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (like RADA, but AADA). She graduated in 2008, after being awarded the Dina Merrell Scholarship for international students. She cut her teeth in a range of off off Broadway shows & short films, most notably with Storm Theatre, American Thymele Theatre, The Stupes and St Jeans Players. She spent the next two years managing Manhattan Theatre Source in Greenwich Village, where she produced and appeared in numerous short play festivals as well as doing a lot of tidying up (literally and figuratively) and initiated the role of Joannie in “Billy Carver and the Children in Mind”, a show which she also designed and workshopped. It turns out, unblocking a toilet (as the general factotum of an impecunious non-profit) is not the ideal prep for taking to the stage, so Jenny decided to try harder to separate acting from admin.
She worked as General Manager for Origin Theatre Company and Three Legged Dog as she developed her own nascent production company, The OPTimistiks. In 2012 they were delighted to bring their take on the Great British art of Panto to the New York stage at Dixon Place with “Dick Whittington: an Xmas Panto for NYC”, which Jenny co-wrote. 2016 saw a tribute to British National Treasure, “Victoria Wood, As Seen in the Big Apple”, produced by The OPTimistiks at The Triad Theatre. Since then, The OPTimstiks has turned towards parody webisodes, including “The Handyman’s Tool” and “Corrie in the Hood”.
There are few dayjobs Jenny hasn’t done to support her acting habit, mainly centering around caring for other people’s children, elders and pets. Whilst working as a Teaching Artist/Assistant at the British International School in New York, Jenny earned credits from the Educational Theatre Department at CUNY and began teaching drama to 1st and 2nd graders as well as learning how to teach children’s yoga and leading afterschool sessions in the early years programme. She is also an award-winning Costume Designer, after many years as a Costume Assistant at AADA, where she had been a work study as an acting student. Jenny and The OPTimistiks have collaborated with the International Women Artists Salon in NYC to create and produce a live radio show and annual event for International Women’s Day (Salon sYmphoNY), which Jenny also hosts. And after marrying several of her friends (as an officiant, rather than being a bigamist), Jenny has pursued her interest in celebrating other people’s matches, especially by being part of the first cohort of the Creative Entrepreneur’s Project at the Entertainment Community (formerly Actor’s) Fund.
